Pull My Strings
By: Dynasty Roque
I understand the message loud and clear
My opinions don't matter as much as anyone else here
It doesn't matter how I feel as long as I have grace
It doesn't matter how I act as long as I have the "right kind of" face
My voice isn't welcome, these words they'll just cut too deep
I'll be as quiet as a church mouse, won't even let out a peep
But they can't stop the screaming that goes on inside my head
They can't stop me from feeling these words, no matter what they said
I am nothing but a puppet, society pulls my strings
Mouth shut in a permanent smile, forget all about your "feelings"
Don't speak until spoken to, they don't want to hear what I have to say
All they want is for me to fit in to the role they want me to play
Tell me what to wear, tell me what to eat
Tell me how to speak, tell me where to place my feet
You'll tell us who we are, forget about our dreams
We are all nothing but puppets, stitched at the seams
And when they get tired of us, we get tossed to the side
By then we'd be too lost, we wouldn't remember who we were, even if we tried
Pull my strings, enjoy watching me pretend
Watch as I follow all of the new trends
As we said, we understand the message loud and clear
I am nothing but a puppet, I don't matter as much as anyone else here
