Choosing Categories And Labels
By: Dynasty Roque
She felt lost. The categories laid out on the table in front of her. There were the vague ones that opened into ones that were more specific. Race? That was an easy one, but wait. What if I am more than one, she thought. She opened one of the folders and saw smaller ones. Religion? She wasn't sure which one to choose. She picked one randomly and decided to try it. What she saw inside confused her. She closed it and pushed it away. One after the other, it never seemed to end. And it seemed she didn't belong in any of them. Her mind started racing, why don't I belong, she wanted to scream. There was no folder labeled lost. Finally, an idea formed in her mind. She reached in to her drawer and pulled out an empty and blank folder. Without hesitation, she picked up a black sharpie and wrote one word. Dynasty. That's the only label she decided she needed. And when she found out the rest, she would write them down. But for now, that was enough.
